Building a Summer Reading Insights Report

This past year as I’ve delved more into Data Analytics as a skillset and future career path, I’ve been incorporating more data analysis and data visualization into my current role as a librarian.

One of the ways I’ve done this is to create a Summer Reading Insights Report for the age group I oversee – preschoolers (ages 0-5). This report was created utilizing Excel for data analysis and for data visualization via pivot charts. I pulled together data from my current year of program tracking as well as the previous year of program tracking. I also downloaded participation and reading tracking data from the online application we’ve been using the past three years – Beanstack. Once I compiled, cleaned, analyzed and visualized the data. I pulled the main KPIs into a power point for presentation and recommendations.

This report has allowed me to see trends in in-person program attendance, high impression rates trend for pre-recorded programs and a need to grow participation in this age group (ages 0-5) in terms of how many children are logging minutes within the program.

Overall, it was a great way for me to see an overall picture of summer reading participation for the preschool age group and I’ll be able to use this report when planning for the 2023 summer reading program, but also in showing my stakeholders the improvements and progress that have already been made.
